“The daunting task of learning how technology and most specifically the ITS Helpdesk worked from the ground up was accomplished within Herb's short tenure. Striving to better not only himself, but the total work environment, Herb always applied what new ideas or skills he acquired to help make the team a better place. He used his large networking base to quickly delve into any area and to try and learn what to do or not to do for any given situation. Herb consistently presented his findings to colleagues to see if applicable to our setting.

Herb thrives when dealing with data and understands work flow. He is quickly able to determine trends and patterns of any operation by analyzing their processes. His methodical approach is well served by management, who are offered multiple ways to streamline production based on Herb's finding. Herb is very adept at breaking down complex issues for all to follow. A specific project was adapting the Q-Radar application for the Helpdesk. This software package was a security application used to detect any NIU network anomalies. If a breach in protocol occurred, Herb was able to help identify the root cause through this appliance. His willingness to assist in troubleshooting any issue was an asset to the Helpdesk. Our customers always are looking for reasons as to why something happened. Herb was consistently there to help investigate the motive using the Q-Radar app.

 This is a letter of reference for Herb Erlbach.   I have worked with Herb over the last many months at Northern Illinois University in the Information Technology Department.   I work with the ITS Helpdesk answering questions from students, staff, faculty, and retirees.   Being an inquisitive person, I love to learn.   Herb has been a consistent source of information and patience and kindness.   I appreciate his upbeat, curious, and professional nature.   My personal desire to expand my knowledge of Microsoft Office products was in perfect harmony with Herb’s careful attention.   He never hesitated to work with me and expand my knowledge. 

I was very impressed with the gusto that Herb delved into his projects.   He is a very detail oriented, high energy person that works well with people.   I witnessed that Herb was a team player that looked out for his fellow teammates.   I witnessed a power point presentation that he had prepared.   It was clear and well thought out and extensively designed.
